"It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are." - e e cummings (1894 - 1962)
Well, a slight update on my dad. It's not cancer, which is awesome news. He has a kidney stone, a stone in his bladder, and calcium deposits above his prostate. The hospital didn't have the machine to remove everything, so he has to go back in January to get everything blown out. This is excellent news, people. Excellent news.
We had a white Christmas here. I ended up with 4 ft of snow on my driveway, which was odd since there was only about a foot of snow on the grass. It was so bad that some snow got into my attic and leaked through my guest bathroom's ceiling. I guess it was like that for most houses in Wichita because everybody I talk to seems to have had the same problem this week. Anyhow..... The weekend before Christmas gave us blizzard like conditions. They even shut down the city of Wichita for an entire day, plus closed down all major highways. I was up in Lawrence with my parents and brother in law at the KU vs. Ohio game so I ended up spending the entire weekend in Lawrence and Topeka (where my sister and her husband live).
KU beat Ohio, of course. It was an okay game. KU tends to beat these teams by such a high score that half the people leave during the beginning of the 4th quarter. I stayed for the entire game because I believe that's what loyal fans should do. The seats I got for this game were awesome, too. We sat in the 4th row, just a few rows behind the announcers, which put us on TV a lot. The best part was watching the players and taking note of their height from a close up advantage. It's definitely a once in a lifetime experience and not many people get to experience it. It's something I think everybody should experience once in their life... a game at Allen Field House. The atmosphere there is surreal.
This weekend I'm going up for another game, weather permitting. KU plays Yale and I'll be sitting in my family's seats this game. The seats are good. They're just higher up, which is where my dad likes them. He prefers being higher up so you can see the entire court. Or something like that. He's like that with his football tickets, too.
Speaking of KU football... they are now off to the Orange Bowl. Woohoo! And my parents are going! They're leaving on Saturday for California because they're going to the Rose Bowl first. The day after the Rose Bowl they're flying into Florida for the Orange Bowl. Its kind of a big deal for them since my dad played for KU in '69 and they went to the Orange Bowl that year. He's even been interviewed for the paper and is going to be on the local news tomorrow night.
Enough about sports.
What else is there to talk about? I got everything I wanted for Christmas. The best present was my red digital camera. Finally! I used it for the first time today, too. I was on my way to get some lunch when this stupid ass lady almost took off the front end of my jeep. I ended up behind her in the Taco Bell drive thru so I took photos of her car tag. Ha ha! She was nuts. She was weaving in and out of parking stalls in the parking lot when she almost hit me and another car again. We both honked at her and I flipped her the bird. When I related the story to my mom, she was like, "Oh my god. You probably gave her a heart attack! She's 80 years old." And I was like, "And that entitles her to be a bitchy crap ass driver? I don't think so."
After that fiasco, I went to fill up with gas and saw somebody stole my gas cap. That's when I started laughing. I mean, how much funnier could life get? The old me would have been completely frustrated and pissed off at the world for throwing these obstacles in my way... but the new me? Eh. Sometimes life throws shit at you and it's just damn funny.
I went to get a new one right away before going back to work. Awesome thing is, the guy sold me a red gas cap! How cool is that?
