Jury Duty

"A jury consists of twelve persons chosen to decide who has the better lawyer." - Robert Frost

Wow. I can't believe the last couple of weeks I've had. I was summoned to jury duty and then ended up as a juror. Yep, I was one of 12 people chosen out of 50 candidates. Or, I should say, I was one of 12 people not eliminated like the other 36. However, we did have an alternate on hand so that number really should be 37.

All I can say is that it was an experience. The worst part of being summoned is all the sitting around and waiting to see if you're going to end up on the jury. You have to answer all sorts of questions, if they decide to ask you any. I was only asked the basic questions. Who do I work for, am I married, and did I know anybody else in the courtroom. This is how I knew I was going to end up on the jury... the fact that they didn't ask me any questions.

Anyhow, the case was a rape case which was extremely disturbing for me given my past. Out of respect for the victim, I will just advise people to be careful on who they accept cab rides from. We found the man guilty and was told that since he had priors for pornography he was looking at 20+ years in jail at his sentencing.

Other than that, I haven't been up too much. My life has revolved around this trial every single day up until Friday. I'm spending today catching up on work. Our garage door is broken so that's supposed to be fixed today, and Kent has some horrible eye infection.

Oh, and I had to step in and prevent JR from taking a bus to stay at his girlfriend's house for the weekend. Fifteen years old and he thinks he can just pick up and go stay at her house for 3 days in Missouri. Yes, she lives in another state. We don't even know her or her parents! And Kent was more than happy to send JR off to stay with them.

I am going to be so happy when all this stress in my life is over with and I can clean up this entire mess and move on with my life. I'm not sure how much more of this lifestyle I can take.
